MELBOURNE 2014

A selection of snaps from three of Melbourne's distinctive markets - cute, zany Rose St Artist's Market, classi Queen Victoria Market and the eclectic thrill-of-the-hunt inspiring Camberwell Sunday Markets. More words at The Afterimage - link at the very bottom.

NEON & PRAYER

Asakusa (浅草) and Akihabara (秋葉原) are physically less than a 15min ride apart on the subway but two entirely different atmospheres and potentially time periods as well. Somewhat unexpectedly, I didn't end up taking too many photos in the sea of visitors in Sensoji and neither in Akihabara - perhaps it was camera weariness, perhaps it was buying a gigantic weekender bag on bargain and hence feeling weird enough lugging it around or perhaps it was simply wishing to experience the moment.

Go figure. 

UNDER THE SEA

Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan via the 50mm f/1.8. Even though the lens struggled a little with the focusing, especially the seals which moved like quicksilver, I kind of liked the chromatic abberation in the seal photos. And when it did focus, I got some beautiful colours.

KING OF THE PORCH

Back when the white cockatoos were visiting our backyard, I got the chance to shove a camera into their face in exchange for small bits of almond and bread (not frequently though - and visits have dropped remarkably since we began refusing to feed them).

They are very nimble, intelligent creatures and their glossy feathers were usually impossibly clean. Many idyllic weekend mornings were shared with these guys (or girls...). Don't look too closely into their eyes though - you'll get sucked into the void

AU NATUREL

The good thing about having various wildlife hanging around within petting distance was that we discovered some unsuspected kangaroo whisperer skills.
